Advocacy, Outreach & Support Services
A Step Beyond Outreach is designed to go outside the traditional boundaries of community outreach and increase the number of HIV positive African America men, women, and children accessing and maintaining primary medical care.
Client Advocacy Services assist HIV infected clients, who are unable to advocate for themselves, to maneuver the bureaucracies that exist in obtaining medical, legal, financial and other much needed support services. In 2008, this program served 45 clients.
Education and Prevention Services utilize workshops, trainings and health fairs to provide HIV awareness and prevention mechanisms to faith-based organizations, middle and high schools. It has also been an avenue that LIGHT has utilized to provide opportunities for HIV and STD testing for underserved populations.
Psychosocial Support Services utilizes a client-tailored curriculum to provide support for HIV related problems to client’s families and caregivers. Group, individual, pastoral, bereavement, nutritional and caretaker support counseling are some of the services that are made available to clients.
